BLOG # 5 REFECTION ON MY ORAL PRESENTATION

The journey in preparing for the presentation had been an enjoyable one. I must say my team was very clear about our project and the goals we aim to achieve during the presentation. This boosts our confidence so that we can effectively persuade others with the ideas that we believe in.

Looking at individual’s performance, I was fairly nervous about it, but I do have to say I felt that it went surprisingly better than expected.  I have noted some improvement from my previous peer teaching and is probably attributed to reflections on the mistakes made during the previous encounter. I believe I spoke more confidently in front of the crowd because I was much prepared than before. To do this, I make sure I practice my speech by rehearsing in front of the mirror so that I am familiarised with my slides. Practicing with the rest of the group members also helps to reduce the tendency of me rushing through my presentations and to establish consistency and promote coordination in the group.  With all the preparation effort, I was certain that I paced my speech well during the oral presentation. In addition, rehearsing in front of the mirror allows me to examine the non-verbal cues for example facial expressions, gesture and posture that I might portray unconsciously. I believe such non-verbal cues help to enhance the delivery of ideas for effective persuasion and I felt that I managed to keep them in check by analyzing the feedback from my audience during the presentation.

My team was quite prepared and remained calm throughout the question and answer section. I feel that this preparedness was possible because all of us were forced to be critical of the slides we have created. During the final collaboration, my team got together and scrutinised the slides from another perspective to come out with a list of possible questions.

Having mentioned the good points, I do have some negative points that I have gathered. For instance, I realised that I may skip the slides because of the time constraint. I think such abrupt distraction reflects a lack of professional communication. Thus, it is important to put necessary things in the slides that you intend to present so as to increase one’s conciseness and help to keep the presentation within the time limit. Of course, it is equally important to focus on the main point in each slide and briefly summarise after each slide so that the audience can better assimilate the details.

  1. Girl, I think you did a great job! Team tress did great! The efforts definitely helped us pull it off. When we rehearse, the comments and suggestions from each other definitely heled us to better realize our strengths and weaknesses. The quote you had at the beginning summarize it all, we had to be pleased by our project so to impress the audience.
All the best to you! Thanks to your good lucks left on my blog, I will definitely enjoy the trip, it is freezing here, but the great views are totally worth it! Good luck with the exmas!

  2. Hi Ting Ting! Thank you for reading my blog once again and now here's my two cents worth on your presentation style. May not be an exact objective perspective, but its just my personal opinion.

I think you realy do speak with alot of conviction and you were loud and clear all the time. A little feedback would be you may sound much more smoother if you were to tone down abit, in both your hand gestures and volume so as to lower down the aggressive tone but still yet sound very "smooth".

Yeap, that is probably the only room of improvement feedback I have for you. Keep up the good spirits and I am sure you will do extremely well for your future presentations.

    All the best =)

  3. hey tingting! (:
I think you did a great job, and we did great as a team too! It's been a pleasure working with you for both the peer teaching and our final presentation and indeed, improvements were made, and we managed to put our ideas across. No one's perfect, and so we can always improve everytime we present. So the main thing is to recognise weaknesses, and you did! (:
Practice makes perfect, and so it's a lifetime of practising onwards! (:

Anyways, all the best for all your exams! :D

  4. Hey Council Elder!
I think you guys did a great job too! You were, as always, spoke with conviction and you really showed that you believe in what you were trying to present! I felt you really improved a lot considering how the previous time I think you stuttered quite a bit.

I also think you guys handled the Q&A very well and it would not have been possible without good practice and critical analysis.

Just to agree with Zu Rong with his point, I think you were too nervous! Just be relaxed and natural, speak like how you always do during the tutorial for our last module, and you should do even better! =)

All the best for your finals! See you around in school.

  6. Hi Zu Rong and Alvin. Thanks for pointing that out. I also understand that is something I need to improve on. I'm so grateful that through this course, I'm able to pick out the mistakes that I took little notice of. Thanks for the constant feedback and I really appreciate them.

  7. Hey Ting Ting,

I really like how you always propose different alternatives throughout the different phases of our proposal. I think it's a really good attribute to be creative and flexible.

You presented with much conviction and I felt that your presentation was rather fluid. However I'm not sure if you're aware, but there were instances where I felt that you tend to repeat "ok" after you finish a point and it could be distracting to the audience.

I guess it's normal to feel a little nervous and I face this problem too, but I feel it's more important what we can do to manage it. I'm sure with more practice and thoroughly understanding what you wanna tell the audience, we would be able to be conduct better presentations.

    All the best ahead!
